The EU registry certificate is the legal document any European Union citizen wishing to live and work in Spain for more than 3 months has to request.
Who can apply for it?
Any citizen of an EU/EEA who plan to live in Spain for more than 3 months
You must be in one of these situations:
- Employed or self-employed in Spain.
- Have sufficient financial means and health insurance (public or private).
- Be retired and covered by the Public Health System of the country that pays your pension
- Student enrolled in a recognized institution, with health insurance and sufficient resources.
Where do I present the application?
You need to apply in person at the National Police station in the province where you live. The procedure is personal and is carried out once you are in Spain. The document is issued at the moment
What documentation do I need to present?
- Form EX-18
- Public Fee Model 790 Code 012 (12 euros)
- Valid passport or ID (original and copy)
- Documents depending on your situation:
- Employment contract, Social Security registration, registration in the census of economic activities, etc.
- Health insurance without co-payments and recent bank statements (less than 1 month old) with sufficient funds (a balance over 8.000 euros would be considered sufficient)
- Proof of pension payment and S1 form
- Enrollment certificate, private/public health insurance, and proof of financial means.
How do my residence document look like?
You’ll get a green certificate with your NIE number, name, nationality, and address. This is your official registration as an EU resident in Spain.
This document proves your residency status in Spain but is not an identity document, so you must always carry your passport for identification.
